|Just a dozen years ago
You could freely come and go
On the road next to the leaders of the land,
Getting to them wasn't hard,
You would rarely see a guard
If you cared to shake a politician's hand.
No one questioned there was purpose,
We just argued 'bout the tools,
If the leaders made bad choices,
We all thought they must be fools...
Now the times have changed, they say,
Walls and checkpoints block the way
And the guards will ask you why you're passing through,
And it has to do somehow
With the politicians now
Working wonders for someone, but not for you.
They have built fortifications
Overhead and underground,
Hoping to outlive their nation
That lies bleeding all around...
But behold, my country dear,
It is treason, greed and fear
That holds up these walls of concrete, steel and glass,
And the time is getting near
When once more the road is clear,
And I won't be sad when it shall come to pass.
